I would say cheese, but he's 60 points more than a standard warboss with the equivilent equipment, and he don't have the waagh rule, and has 1 less initiative and strength
but his special rules and other wargear make up for it

i should note it's grotsnik
and yeah
for 160 points
he has wargear that grants him and his squad feel no pain
he has a poisoned close combat weapon, slugga, and power klaw
and while he cannot leave his unit unless he's the lone survivor, he gives his unit fearless and rampage

What's his save?
I hope it's 6+
He doesn't look to be wearing much armour.

I can understand the arms.
But he looks completely normal from the model, apart from a few stitches.
And how come being robotic constitutes to having a 4+ save?

that's pretty much ork skin over a robotic torso
and being robotic gives necron warriors a 4+ doesn't it?

well with grotsnik, the only non robotic bits are his brain, legs, skin and maybe 1 or 2 organs
again, the incident didn't leave him with much orky bits left

its ork logic
besides no orks have a 5+
they only ever have a 6+ 4+ or 2+
except badrukk
but he gets a free pass. he's the most badass ork who isn't Ghaz

Ooc: The ork characters are all over the top.
I can't take none of them seriously, which is weird, because games workshop writes and has written them so gritty and realistic in the past and in a few books.
But now... I can't think why anyone in 40k would find orks intimidating or scary.

honestly, reading helsreach makes em pretty gritty n scary
but seriously
badrukk is amazeballs
fluff wise he has accomplished 3 thinks that between them make him amazing
1) he and his gitz out gunned a tau hunter cadre
2) he and his gitz blunted an entire hive fleet tendril by boarding the main hive ship and blowing the ever loving fuck out of the norn queen
3) supposedly he solo'd a freeblade knight with nothing but a hair squig and several inebriated snotlings

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:02

Ooc: when the lore in the codex and the New models look like what they do, I can't help but feel like disney have bought the rights to orks.
Making them over the top and Overpowered makes them so much more boring.
I liked it more when they came in barbaric hordes, their brutality terrifying for a human to behold, their armour gritty and old, covered in dried blood and rust.

Now they look immaculate, carry around wargear that is so ridiculously OP that no one thinks they are the barbaric and brutal race they once were.
And have such bright colours that you wonder why some of the writers try to make them grim when in actual fact imperial forces would just laugh at their stupidity.

You can take as many ard boys as you like, making regular boys pointless.

The new units look dumb and carry op weapons.

The orks are no longer intimidating, now the enemy player just has to worry about cheese units.

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:17

ok hang the feck on
1) yeah you can take as many ard boyz as you want, but at the cost of increasing a ten man squad from 60 to 100 points. when you've got a lot of boyz, that's a big fuckin deal
2) what new units? flashgitz? they were around for ages but they only just now got models unless you count that lone, shitty flashgit they used to sell, and as for their rules, they aren't' cheese, especially since they only got a T-shirt save, and their actual firepower varies incredibly. the only other new things i can think of are the gorka and morkanaut, and OP? only of by that you mean over priced, both rule and points wise
3) I SORELY disagree with you on that last point sir. And so does snikrot. the sneakiest, most brutally violent character in 40k since marbo

Ooc: flashgitz are op, with a high toughness, high BS modifier for a ork, what is the equivalent of a heavy bolter that has the capability to take out a unit of terminators in a turn, and a T shirt save that is protected my multiple wounds each.
And I believe their armour is 4+

Defiantly not op.

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:25

OOC actually it is 6+. I was incorrect when i told you what they did at warhammer world, and only recently discovered my mistake.
and they have a 2 in 6 chance of being able to shred terminators, and only get the increased ballistic skill if they stay still, which is offset by their 24" range. unless you're on the defensive, they will HAVE to move in order to do anything
and need i remind you they are 22 points each?
and that at warhammer world, 9 out of ten died to a single shot?

and tell that to tyranid lictors, they're even larger and even sneakier

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:30

Lictors can blend in with anything because they have colour changing and stuff, and are thin and look like they could move quickly.
Snikrot looks likes as graceful as a elephant treading on broken glass.

And at 22 points each, that's half the points of a terminator, so a unit half the points of a terminator squad can take them out in a turn.
And you should have died much quicker in that case.
And you got shot by a ton of cheese, which wasnt mine and I don't like that kind of tactic anyway.
And 3 shots at 24 inches is nothing to complain about.

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:33

nothing to complain about, but counters the fact they gotta stay still to be more accurate, due to the relatively short range
and a 6+ save discourages you from approaching the foe due to relative fragility
and yes, half the points of a terminator. they have a 2 in 6 chance of having the firepower to take out terminators
terminators however ALWAYS have the firepower to take out flashgitz

also i have a lictor. it is larger in almost every way than a damn warboss

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:35

Lictors are also more lithe, with a completely different shape of body. It doesn't matter if it's taller if it literally blends in with its surroundings and goes near invisible, and that's without its abilities.

2 out of 6.
Rolls 2.

Any unit dead.

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:39

not just taller
hell in terms of the body, a lictor is identicle in size to a tyranid warrior if not bigger, just smaller shoulder armour, and much larger thorax armour.

and flashgitz fall down to tacitcal marines for gods sakes

also snikrot, he uses damn tactics to be sneaky, that's it
and damn good ones for an ork

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:42

So your now comparing the lictor to other nids. Heh, I think I won that argument.

And I didn't know that before, I thought they had a 4+ save. But now that they have a 6+ they seem much more balanced, so I'm fine with them, apart from their models, too blocky and cartoony.

And Snikrot tactics... wait until dark. Hit thing until dead, hit other things.
Possibly hit explody thing with gun.

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:46

since tyranid warriors aint meant to be sneaky, i think it's a valid comparison

fair enough, guess that's down to personal preference

and snikrot tactics, are actually not that. for one he doesn't even have a gun.
his tactics are more, use camoflage, remain unseen until last possible second, do not fire until foe already knows you are there, leave victims hung upside down from trees, scalps removed, eyes pulled out, barely alive, to scare the hell out of any other foes who find them later

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:49

Isn't that why lictors have the ability to blend with their surroundings, and also have large appendages to climb sheer surfaces and trees, also, they are meant to find enemy leaders and suck their brains out with their tentacle faces.

And good for Snikrot for trying to be stealthy when he has the stealth of a giant green gorilla.

PostSubject: Re: Starter Topic   2014-11-01, 01:52

a fair point. still don't really get the point in those tentacles
especially why some genstealers, the venomthrope and the new toxiccrene have em

and yeah, although i should note tabletop wise, the only stealth things he has are the stealth special rule, the ability to choose which side he outflanks from, and he and his unit swapping stealth for shrouded on the turn they show up
oh and if you take his formation, and they don't shoot on the turn they show up they re roll cover saves
